In this chapter we are going to cover assembling the capability of pulse width modulating (PWM) a 9-12v RGB LED strip and programming Arduino to cycle through a range of different colors. In later steps we will look into how to mount a transistor onto a heatsink and assembling the circuit. Although soldiering won’t be covered because most RGB LED strips already come with leads and adhesives, (there are other guides that cover that).

Some things you are going to need before we get started:

Microcontroller

Breadboard

RGB LED Strip

12V Battery

3 NPN Transistors (TIP 120) 

LM7805 Voltage regulator

About 10-40 Screws

Nuts (10-40 of them)

Nylon Washers

Hook-up wire 22G
